After your
webdesign has been completed, the website needs to be hosted
by a reliable server. There are millions of servers, some
very expensive and some free. Free servers, such as
Angelfire and AOL, usually have big strings attached such as
irritating advertising banners or popup windows promoting
themselves or their paid advertisers.
If you are serious enough about a website to pay a
professional to design one for you, please be willing to pay
a SMALL amount for a great server.
I recommend
DreamHost.
I have hosted multiple websites on this server for over five
years and am very happy with this company. Since I already
have a large account, it is easy and inexpensive for me to
keep adding more websites.
Here's the deal:
If you pay in advance on an annual basis, the cost is $60.00
per year, which is merely $5.00 a month. The alternative is
to pay monthly, but the charge then becomes $9.95 a month,
so the annual payment plan saves you 50 percent.
I can take care of all the arrangements for you, so you need
not worry about where your website is. It will just be
there, and it will work.
The only additional fee is for the registration of a domain
name (yourname.com). I charge $25.00 for registering and
setting up a domain name for you for the first year;
thereafter, renewal is $15.00 annually. This includes
configuring e-mail addresses (you@yourdomain.com), which
will forward to your actual e-mail address.
So, after your website is finished, your total annual
maintenance charge is $75.00 ($60.00 for hosting and
$15.00 for domain name renewal). That's the bottom
line.
